PRAGUE

The excellent experience of the LP concert was spoiled only by the sound

Sugar Mizzy May 12, 2019

The Czech Republic has its next module. Alongside ZAZ, there is currently an LP that sold out Forum Karlín twice with this year’s return to Prague. Again, we could only speak in superlatives, not really bad sound. More in our report.

Live: LP

date: May 11, 2019
Support: POWER
setlist: Dreamcatcher, When We’re High, Dreamer, When I’m Over You, No Witness, The Power, Die For Your Love, Tightrope, One Night In The Sun, Girls Go Wild, House On Fire, Shaken, Special, Muddy Waters , Strange, Lost On You

The successful set was performed by POWERS. Their electropop created a breathtaking bar atmosphere along with the dim lights. Catchy pieces, such as “Hot”, garnered considerable applause. The duo had a pre-recorded musical background, but it was accompanied on guitar. During the more dance parts, the spectators stomped on the cabbage, so they managed to warm up. Five minutes after nine, an accompanying band and, of course, an LP, began to appear on the stage with mysterious sounds. Her performance, as well as the album “Heart To Mouth”, was launched by “Dreamcatcher”. And believe me, you identified the song was not easy. She wrapped herself in the rumble and loud drums, in which the singer’s voice was completely lost. The ethereal ballad didn’t really deserve that sound.

Unfortunately, the following excellent issue caught up with it, which was one of its highlights during the last show. At the beginning of the set, the illogically classified “When We’re High” graduated correctly with the performer’s angelic voice, the experience was rather halfway. With the third item “Dreamer”, the text captured a little better, but more because the LP literally shouted into the microphone.

Even during Saturday’s performance, the American with Italian roots saved somewhat with the speeches between the songs, a sincere smile as proof that she is more than good in Prague was enough. The moment during the voice exhibition called “Die For Your Love” seemed even more magical, at the end of which the phrases alternated with the audience. “at least not forever”. The playful hopping with the red ribbon during the single “Tightrope” also had a very nice effect. In a report from the last concert, I wrote that they don’t go to this musician because of the screening. The latter was really above standard, so I was looking forward to a digital dose of creativity this time as well. That’s why it was a little frozen that the stage was decorated only with a canvas with a picture of the forest. Although the green-purple lighting at “Girls Go Wild” suited him very well, it was a bit of a downgrade. And although Laura Pergolizzi squeezed the most out of the weaker songs from last year’s album, she could easily have added some more archival pieces.

The evening was more fast-paced, as the “House On Fire”, riddled with Spanish rhythms, stood out like a frantic stone. Perhaps the only one was the piano confession “Recovery”, during which the audience interacted nicely with the world of their phones. Too bad the clever couple lostonjáčků at the back. But even in the additional part, into which the LP was hacked for a long time, they survived. In conclusion, we can only add that, despite the sound shortcomings, it was a great concert. The second “Lost On You” probably won’t record, so let’s be surprised where we can enjoy this singer’s exceptional voice next time. It is definitely more of a question of time.
