The biggest problem? Mainly parking, then tourist, say residents of the center
This follows from the current City Monitor survey of the independent research agency IBRS. The main goal was to identify the issue of living and living in Prague 1 and determine their impact on the overall satisfaction of the inhabitants of this part of the city.
“Within Prague, we have already implemented three dozen City Monitor projects that address the problematic area of living and living in individual city districts. In the current research, we look at the first part of Prague, “says Tomáš Horejsek, head of IBRS production.
Almost every fifth (18%) parking resident spontaneously answers the question of what I consider to be the main problem of the Prague 1 district. Only then do tourists (11%) and problems related to expensive housing and rent, dirt and clutter and noise (all 6% each).
Satisfied majority
Overall, however, the majority (62%) of the city center residents are satisfied with life in Prague 1. It is the overall assessment that is based on satisfaction with individual areas and their importance to a particular person. The individual parameters are most satisfied with the number of pedestrian zones (71%), followed by social care, health and education (58%) and the development of the city district (57%).
This is followed by services (55% satisfaction), communication with the town hall (52%), safety (49%) and cleanliness (also 49%). The second worst satisfaction was with transport (yet it was 43%). Parking was the worst, with only 16% of the population in the first district being satisfied. It is parking with transport that has the greatest negative impact on the overall satisfaction of the inhabitants of Prague 1 – half of the residents are dissatisfied with parking.
Underground parking
“The main problem of the first part of Prague’s city is traditionally considered by its inhabitants to be parking, only another area follows at a greater distance. That is why this time we asked this half of the population, who had parking as a problem, their opinion on how it could be solved according to them, “says Tomáš Horejsek Production Manager IBRS.
According to the residents of Prague 1, the construction of underground car parks would help solve the parking situation. This answer is the most common both spontaneously (25%) and among the list of different options – a full 84% of residents dissatisfied with parking agree with this option.
It is interesting that the second best solution, according to the inhabitants of Prague 1, would be the construction of parking houses, which is not a very realistic option in the center. This variant was spontaneously suggested by 19% of respondents, 76% of the population from a possible solution. Only then did spontaneous responses follow, such as a reduction in the number of cars (14%) or the extension of parking zones for residents (12%).
The research additionally asked why the inhabitants of Prague 1 would consider moving elsewhere. A full fifth of respondents cited rising housing prices as a reason. Spontaneously cited major problems, such as parking or large numbers of tourists, which resulted in no relocation for even two percent.
