Prague is safe. The vast majority of the metropolitan population thinks so
“Prague is as safe as Praguers and tourists feel. It turns out that the city’s targeted investments in equipment, especially the city police and other security forces, are the right decision. The result of the analysis is a good report for us, “says Petr Hlubuček, Deputy Mayor for Security.
“The result of the research must be taken with great humility. It is a commitment for us to work even harder for our beautiful metropolis. The work of police officers, as well as police officers, firefighters and rescuers, is very demanding, responsible and often dangerous. Everyone deserves our recognition and admiration, “describes the director of the Prague City Police, Eduard Šuster.
The “analysis of the feeling of safety” follows a three-year-old survey and shows that the feeling of safety has increased in all parts of the metropolis. Prague 1, which is exposed to tourists and nightlife, is no exception, where 3% of the population more than three years ago signed up to feel safe.
I also feel safe with tourists
“It simply came to our notice then. For example, we are currently trying to increase the number of police officers on the streets. This is an important factor in motivating new applicants. That is why we recently asked the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to increase the risk surcharge for police officers. And, of course, we are planning further investments that will serve to increase security in the capital, “adds Deputy Mayor Hlubučka.
At the request of the capital city of Prague, Ipsos conducted a poll of 1,200 respondents. The number of respondents has increased compared to a similar analysis from 2015 and shows that Prague is one of the safest metropolises in the world and tourist.
“I am very pleased that the citizens’ trust in the Police of the Czech Republic has been rising for a long time. The results of this research show that the Prague police trust 10 percent more citizens than the current national average. It is an expression of the fact that the Prague police can create a safe space, fight crime, protect against the threat of terrorist attacks, as well as manage large security measures. I perceive this result as an appreciation of the daily work of all Prague police officers, “explains Jan Ptáček, Director of the Prague Police.
According to Deputy Mayor Petr Hlubuček, the metropolis must now work to speed up and simplify cooperation between the city and security forces in areas such as drugs and street crime.
