The vineyards gave way to growing Prague, and the streets are still reminiscent of them
First of all, it is necessary to change the large area, which probably bears the name Vinohrady and its center through the long Vinohrady region. the fortress and the streets got their names according to the inexhaustible number of vineyards that stood there two before the country became part of the capital.
The foundations were made during the reign of Charles IV during the 14th century; They were left with the names of some homesteads, such as Folimanka, Smetanka, afrnka or Zvonaka.
To this day, only the Grbovka vineyard with an area of 1.7 hectares has been preserved, where the Kadoron rises the traditional vintage. At the entrance end of Vinohrady, go to Na Vinici Street, which will remember the city’s past. Cadastral bag at the foot to Stranice in Prague 10.
Even in the neighboring town of Nové Město, a riot grew in large numbers in the 19th century, but later German universities and the botanical state had to give way. Today, the Faculty of Economics or the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University is located there, and Vinin Street runs through the city.
The grapes were on the Vltava
The vineyards spread out on the slopes above the Vltava. Pedevm was an area of Vyehrad, where they have been restored in recent years, in those cities. And it was similar in Branka, thanks to which the streets Na Vinohradu, Nad Vinohradem and Pod Vinohradem got their names there.
Modany also has a rich wine history only a short distance upstream. The first mention of the local vineyard, so called Archbishop’s, dates back to 1178 and is contained in the deed of Queen Sobslava II. Another stolen took place, until 1929, when it completely froze due to the harsh winter. It was re-established and in the late 1980s, and on 1.5 hectares today, varieties such as Riesling or Moravian Mukt grow. Today, the area of the arel is also a monument of wine vineyards from 1801, which the town hall of Prague 12 restored in 2014. Pobl is led by the Nad Vinic and Pod Vinic roads.
The river in Troja is currently growing most densely. It is definitely not an accident, even there the history of the vineyards goes deep into the past. Proof of this is the name of Na Kazance Street, which refers to a former vineyard and a farmstead from the end of the 17th century. And Na utce and Na Salabce streets have a similar origin there. The conditions for the grapevine were found by our ancestors and the Berounka family. Today, however, only the names of Na Vinikch and Vinohrady streets in Radotnice are affected.
Destky homestead on Hanspaulka
According to one of the many former homesteads, the Hanspaulka area in Prague 6 acquired its name, surrounded by vineyards, which was built in 1733 by Hans Paul Hippmann for a Baroque castle, in which the Wenceslas Institute now announced it.

The whole country was built by Praan into a luxurious villa fortress in the 1920s. At that time, a number of streets were named after the vineyards that existed there from the 14th to the 18th century. These are, for example, Kadekovská, Krocnovská, Na Vlovce, Na Bernce, Na Julisce, Na Kotlce, and the Na Vininch horch road has followed this past since 1929.
Vilmovsk Street is located in the same locality. The former Vilmovsk and Vilmovsk vineyards were established in 1639 by merging two vineyards. Its name comes from the time when it was the property of the registrar of chamber thorns Adam Frantik Vilmovski, said Marek Laovka in his publication Prask ulink.
He gave up the defunct vineyard there, which was Fierka, but the original one was Termanka. According to its owner and mayor of the New Town, the name was acquired by Pavel Daniel Terman from Prague. It was not until 1720 that it was bought by the dog Jan Ondej Fier, who built a homestead there ten years later. To this day, it bears the name Fierka and after its name is also pillehl street.
In the former industrial of Liben we find Vinopalnická Street. The reason is simple, because Hubnek’s liqueur factory worked there for years. And in Vysoany there is the U Vinnch sklep road, which used to be there. From the 19th century, they served the Tauber brothers’ winery, which, after several changes of ownership and nationally, produced wine until its demise in 1996.
