Prague 4 is introducing parking zones. The system immediately collapsed and did not work for three days
Prague 4 started issuing parking permits for new parking zones on Monday, but the system collapsed that day and did not work at all for several days. From July 1, paid parking zones (ZPS), known as blue zones, will be introduced in various parts of the city district. Parking for a fee will mainly cover the area along metro line C and the surrounding stations.
The issue of parking permits did not run from Monday, when the system was launched, until Thursday morning. “The issuance of parking permits is renewed in Prague 4 from today at eight o’clock. Yesterday we managed to eliminate a software bug, we tried it and resumed the operation, “said Jiří Bigas, a spokesman for Prague 4.
Some residents of the Fourth District of Prague complained that they only found out about the zones when the blue stripes on the road began to be painted. However, Prague 4 is defending itself by the fact that education is constantly taking place on its website, on the website parkujvklidu.cz on its Facebook or in the magazine of the city district. “Then they don’t read anything,” Bigas commented on residents, who were surprised by the introduction of the zone.
According to Bigas, the information campaign also takes place with the help of leaflets: “The leaflet campaign also takes place, sometime since last week. People fly either to their mailboxes or at offices or information centers. ”
According to the town hall, the situation in Prague 4 is bad, especially along metro line C, tram lines in Nusle and Podolí and in the streets adjacent to Prague 2 and 5, where the zones are already operating. Therefore, they will not apply in the whole territory of Prague 4, but only in the most problematic places. In the current system, drivers no longer have to have a parking card behind the window, but register the car’s license plate at the town hall. The residence pays 1200 crowns per year.
In the capital, the zones were first introduced in part of Prague 1 in 1996, where efforts to regulate traffic appeared in 1982. Subsequently, they were extended to the whole of Prague 1, 2, 3 and 7 and parts of Prague 16. The parking zones themselves are operated by town halls 13, 16 and 22. Since the beginning of February, the same regime has been operating in Prague 3 and 7 as in Prague 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8, where drivers do not have to place parking cards behind car windows, but register a car license plate at the town hall. Cars there control cars with specially equipped cameras.
