The ODS stood up for Fischer, but Drahoš has even stronger support in the fight for the Senate
“The Senate is a policy for me and we don’t dismantle you when everything works. I am honored to be able to run for it with the support of the ODS, “Fischer said at the party’s program conference in Líbeznice near Prague. Fischer added that KDU-ČSL, TOP 09 and STAN have also been promised help. In the twelfth district, for example, he will face the former head of the Czech Environmental Inspectorate, Eva Tylová, who was deployed by the Pirates. They will probably be the most watched Senate elections in Prague 4.
Jiří Drahoš, who crushed Miloš Zeman in the capital, announced his candidacy there. Drahoš negotiates with the People’s Party, ODS, Pirates, TOP 09, STAN and the Greens. These groups will probably not deploy their own candidate against him. So far, only the current senator Eva Syková (CSSD) has shown interest, but she does not have a certain nomination. “We will announce any support and details of the candidacy at the beginning of June,” said Drahoš’s collaborator Jakub Kleindienst.
In the January duel, the fifth Marek Hilšer is running in Prague 2. He is the main challenger of Libor Michálek, who is defending the senator’s contribution for the Pirates. At the same time, they pushed Hilšer in the presidential race. “I will run as an independent with the support of some democratic parties that I am still negotiating with,” he said without further details.
The question is in which Senate club Drahoš, Fischer and possibly Hilšer would sit. If the People’s Party, which has the ambition to fill the post of Speaker of the upper house of parliament, may be their club. In addition, KDU-ČSL in Prague relies on its own candidate Hayat Okamura, the older brother of SPD chairman Tomia, who chose the eighth district. According to him, also because none of Zeman’s three rivals will run for the electorate in October.
