A recent study by the Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index proves that Prague is a popular tourist destination. According to her, 6.1 million sleeping international visitors came here last year and it was the 20th most visited place in the world! She held the position from the year before last. According to the study, 4.5 percent more people should visit Prague this year.
Bangkok (19.4 million) is again at the top of the rankings, followed by London, Paris, Dubai and Singapore. According to this criterion, Prague is one of the three cities where spending on meals accounts for the largest share of recent expenditures. It is more of the world’s most visited elite twenty in Seoul (47 percent) and Istanbul (33.6 percent).

Another significant item of expenditure in the capital of the Czech Republic is accommodation with a share of 28.7 percent. This is followed by shopping (24.7 percent) and local services (12.3 percent). The remaining five percent of the expenditure is transportation costs.
The Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index includes 132 cities and ranks them according to the number of sleeping foreign visitors and their spending. Publicly available data are used to derive the number of foreign visitors sleeping and the amount of their expenses.
According to the Czech Statistical Office, almost 9.3 million foreign tourists came to the Czech Republic last year. Compared to 2015, this represented a growth of 6.7 percent.
