Get to know Hradčany and Malá Strana
Malá Strana was founded on green turf in the middle of the 13th century. It was originally called New Town of Prague, Charles IV. but he founded his own district of the same name and the present Lesser Town became the Lesser Town of Prague.
The origin of Hradčany
The palaces of the nobility came to life significantly during the reign of Emperor Rudolf II. During the Thirty Years’ War, the Lesser Town was ravaged by Swedish troops. Later, however, it began to become a residential Baroque district with aristocratic palaces, churches and monasteries.
Hradčany as a town was founded sometime around 1320. It thus became the third town in Prague. Over the years, they have become a symbol of the city and the state.
Attractions of the Lesser Town
Today, Malá Strana and Hradčany are the best-preserved historical complex, which has retained its original character. It often becomes the object of filmmakers who come here from all over the world.
For the time being, the walk will focus on the architectural attractions of Malá Strana and Hradčany dating from the 20th century. There will also be a special empty space on the show after the statue that stood on the concrete until recently, or Nerudova Street, where the history is associated with the operation of omnibuses in Prague. For example, the house where the Čapková brothers lived for 18 years will be in the viewfinder.
Lesser Town of the 20th centuryThe guided walk takes place on Saturday 17 September
The meeting of participants will be at the tram stop No. 22 Pohořelec in the direction from the center, in front of the monument to Tychon Brahe and Jan Kepler
Duration 1.52 hours

Participants will see houses they have probably walked around a hundred times, and yet they have not noticed them. I will find out, for example, what needs to be done from time to time to reopen the baroque palace.
