Prague services will collect waste from all over Prague. The city will save tens of millions
From 1 November this year, Pražské služby (PS) will now collect municipal waste from the city districts of Prague 2, Prague 3, Prague 8, Prague 9, Prague 10 and Prague 14. This means that Prague Services will be responsible for waste management. throughout the capital.
Today, the Board of Directors of Pražské služby together with the company’s Supervisory Board decided on this basis on the basis of expert opinions, which aimed to assess whether to continue cooperating with subcontractors or to ensure the scope of services performed by them on their own. According to the opinion of the Supervisory Board and the Board of Directors, this option is clearly the most advantageous for both the Prague Services and the Capital City. Until now, waste collection in all the above-mentioned city districts has been provided by subcontractors. “The company Pražské služby, ie Technical Administration of Communications, is owned by the city. By providing the contract directly, without subcontractors, Prague will save up to 200 million crowns in the next four years, ”said a member of the Prague Services Supervisory Board and First Deputy Mayor Jiří Vávra.
Leases for a billion
The Board of Directors and the Supervisory Board of Pražské služby also recommended to the General Meeting to approve the lease of part of the assets of the Technical Administration of Roads (TSK). From November 1, TSK will collect all municipal waste in Prague. This is a contract worth about one billion a year. The so-called lease has yet to be approved by the PS General Meeting on Tuesday.
Prague joined the lease after failing to buy a minority stake in PS, which was eventually acquired by EP Industries Daniel Křetínský. He, as a minority and shareholder of PSAS, does not agree with the lease.
The waste collection contract between Prague and PSAS will expire on 31 October. TSK will take care of waste collection until 31 December 2015. Until then, the new city leadership of the autumn elections will have to continue solving the problem. The part of the company dealing with commercial waste collection will remain in Prague Services.
According to the PS, the change of the collection company will not have any negative consequences for the citizens of the mentioned city districts. “We are ready to collect municipal waste from new places. We guarantee that there will be enough cars and staff available on November 1, “says Prague Services spokesman Radim Mana.
