The driver’s license is in the Prague queue, and in the summer there will be vehicle registration.
People in Prague no longer have to wait in endless queues when they go to pick up a driver’s license or license plates for a newly registered vehicle. The city management has taken several measures to speed up the processing of people significantly. Today, the driver’s license is issued while there is no active queue. An average of about thirty minutes is waited in the vehicle register, while a few months ago it was common for waiting times to exceed several days.
There were two reasons why the contact points could not handle the onslaught of motorists. The number of requests processed by the register of vehicles and drivers has been growing for a long time. The city did not react to this situation in the summer, despite the fact that waiting times were constantly increasing. Two years ago, the vehicle register in the whole country literally collapsed due to errors in the new information system from the Ministry of Transport, and it hit Prague most noticeably, where registration is done the most.
The current city council began to address the situation soon after its election to the city head. In the department approved an increase in the number of employees for the relevant traffic administration agency of the municipality to the office of the number of officials at the counters. “The goal was clear, to break down the fronts that upset everyone so much,” says the mayor of Prague, Tomáš Hudeček.
However, increasing the number of people behind the counters was not the only step the municipality took. “At the same time, since the beginning of May this year, we have extended our working hours to Friday mornings, so we are already open to the public every working day. Thanks to the measures taken, we have managed to completely break down the queues at the register of drivers in the center of Prague in Jungmannova Street, and the check-in of citizens is proceeding smoothly, “said Josef Mihalík, director of the Department of Traffic Administration Agendas.
The situation in the vehicle register is also significantly improving, where the number of processed applications is several times higher and the number of five workplaces intended for the public is adapted to this. Here, too, the number of employees who deal directly with citizens’ requests has increased, and it is also open to the public on Friday morning at the busiest workplace in Bohdalec.
“Exceptionally, it still takes more than an hour, but it is only on some days in the morning. On the contrary, in the afternoon we already control everything so that the check-in process is already completely smooth, “added Mihalík. According to him, during the holidays, additional counters will be opened in the vehicle register and waiting times will be reduced to a minimum.
