Farmers’ markets in Prague will increase again
According to an estimate of the sixth city district, five to eight thousand people arrive at the local farmers’ market every Saturday at Vítězné náměstí, known as the popular “kulaťák”. For the same reason, about 2,500 people arriving daily for fresh vegetables, fruit or sausages come to the old customs house near Republic Square. This is also the reason why the local markets started to take place this day after a week, twice as often as before, and with longer opening hours of up to 20 hours.
About thirty are now taking place in Prague farmers’ markets, which, according to the calculations of the E15 daily, about twenty thousand people can arrive for the week. Due to the unrelenting interest of Praguers, the city districts are therefore preparing other farmers’ markets, according to the statements of the city districts.
The value of the locality is currently being sought by the town hall of the Prague 3 district, where markets on Jiřího z Poděbrad Square are already held three times a week. “They primarily serve the inhabitants of Upper Žižkov and Vinohrady. They were happy if the second farm would be able to build a market in the area of Ohrad or Chmelnice for the inhabitants of Jarov and other eastern parts of Prague 3, “said its spokesman Jan Sotona.
The second option is the location in the lower Žižkov, ie towards the center. “It simply came to our notice then. However, given the expected need for construction modifications, it probably does not appear earlier than the second half of next year, “he added.
Prague 1 is also considering the establishment of another market. “We would also like to place a farmers’ market on the left bank of the Vltava. However, a suitable place has not yet been selected. However, organizing city districts is a costly affair – management and stands, sales organization and more, “said Prague 1 spokeswoman Veronika Blažková.
Jiří Sedláček: There are many farmers’ markets, but not quality ones
They are also thinking about another marketplace in the city district of Prague 9 and in Prague 10. “We are evaluating at least two promising locations. If their suitability turns out, we will launch them from the new season, April 2013, “said Jan Charvát, a spokesman for Prague 10.
