Work in Motol will continue, the movement was caused by the subsoil
From Tuesday, the Motol University Hospital will resume construction work on the reconstruction of Wing B of the Children’s Hospital. Her leadership was notified. However, the construction will be under strict supervision until its completion in the middle of next year.
The age-old building of the B-wing has moved by up to ten centimeters during construction activities in the last two weeks. Last Wednesday, therefore, the crisis staff suspended the reconstruction and decided whether it would be necessary to vacate the wings of the children’s hospital where the patients are. But the statics decided that it was not necessary.
According to the conclusion of the conditions of the experts, the reason for the shift was a change in the hydrogeological subsoil. They did not confirm speculation that the movement could be related to the nearby construction of the metro line.
Experts said that the original hospital was built in difficult hydrogeological conditions, on a slope and on land with groundwater. According to them, both of these factors contributed to a certain instability of the subsoil.
The hospital was built between 1964 and 1977, and today no one can ever answer it thoroughly, it began to build on an unstable base. The wing at which there was a shift dates from 1964.
According to the Ministry of Health, 2.67 billion crowns have been spent from the state budget on the reconstruction and modernization of the children’s hospital since 2008, 390 million from extra-budgetary funds and 462 million from hospital resources.
Motol pays for the reconstruction of wing B exclusively from its own resources, the supplier loan of 280 million will be repaid by 2016. The work is carried out by the company Metrostav, which is also building a nearby metro line.
