There are thousands of places for part-time workers in Prague, but they are fast disappearing
Companies in Prague are looking for thousands of part-time workers for the summer, the demand peaks in May. This is mainly manual, but also office work, companies pay an average of 80 to 90 crowns per hour. But those who work with computers can come up with better money. They told representatives of job portals and agencies. But students should act quickly.
“Now the peak of demand for part-time workers for the summer period has begun, which will culminate in May,” said Tomáš Ervín Dombrovský from LMC, which operates the Jobs.cz and Prace.cz portals. In April, they registered almost 2,500 part-time positions in the capital, and this number is expected to rise to 3,500 in May.
Manpower personnel agency will also be looking for 400 part-time workers for about 60 companies in Prague by the summer. “Three quarters are manual brigades for 80 to 90 crowns per hour. The rest are administrative brigades, where the reward can be as much as 110 crowns. This is work at receptions, data entry, especially auxiliary work in accounting, “said LMC marketing manager Jiří Halbrštát, adding that students often use English in these positions.
According to him, there are more administrative brigades in the summer, because the companies thus cover the shortage of staff during the holidays. When looking for a brigade, it pays to monitor current offers and react as immediately as possible, because positions are often filled within a few tens of minutes, “Dombrovský warned.
According to the experts interviewed by the brigades in marketing and education, the trend is also the demand for people for cleaning. “It has to do with tightening legislation and controlling illegal employment. Therefore, companies are afraid to hire workers from illegal Ukrainian agencies, “Halbrštát explained the increased offer of cleaning work. On the contrary, according to Dombrovský, the number of hospitality and gastronomy has decreased in hospitality and gastronomy.
Finding a brigade in the Czech Republic is more difficult this year
Finding a temporary job this year before the holidays is usually more difficult for students than in previous years. Probably in all regions except Prague, the number of offers from employment agencies and companies is decreasing. Temporary workers are most often used in agriculture, street sales or auxiliary manual and administrative work.
Remuneration per hour of work for brigades most often ranges from 60 to 150 crowns gross. Sellers are the best rated, but their earnings often depend on performance. Temporary workers with computer skills or English also have better earnings. The smallest rewards are for cleaning or for auxiliary work.
The offer varies by region
So far, specialized agencies in the Central Bohemian, Liberec, Ústí nad Labem, Moravian-Silesian or Karlovy Vary regions offer a minimum of opportunities to earn extra money. For example, in Karlovy Vary, with an average unemployment rate of around ten percent, it is a problem to find work for people registered at employment offices. The number of part-time jobs in the region is very limited and usually only ten have a chance to start caring for a part-time job a few months in advance or have already proved successful.
The same or a smaller offer of part-time jobs than last year is reported by an employment agency in the Pilsen region. They are in the tenth against the pre-crisis period, 2008. In the Pardubice region, street sales and promotion predominate among the offer of summer jobs. It is possible to be a Greenpeace activist and a seller of souvenirs for non-profit organizations. Other offers are difficult to find. Students can apply, for example, for the positions of telephone operators or auxiliary forces at children’s camps. In the south of Bohemia, students are best placed in tourism and gastronomy, in the Hradec Králové region with fruit growers.
In the Vysočina region, many companies already have summer brigades. Employees’ children and already certified temporary workers are admitted to them as a priority. In the south of Moravia, companies will probably advertise their interest at the last minute. The Student Agency group will probably hire the most employees for the dovolena.cz web portal. According to representatives of employment and consulting agencies in Olomouc, employers will not start looking for part-timers until June.
