RegioJet wants to replace other ČD express trains, the state is said to save hundreds of millions
The yellow RegioJet trains have just entered the Prague – Havířov route and are already in favor of other express lines. The company from the Student Agency group of the entrepreneur Radim Jančura has offered the Ministry of Transport, which will ensure profitable operation of the Expres, EuroCity and InterCity train categories throughout the Czech Republic without subsidies. It is said that it will save the state several million crowns a year.
Jančur’s company justifies its offer by the fact that Czech Railways has repeatedly declared that it cannot ensure the operation of EC, IC, Ex trains without subsidies, or that this has a negative impact on the quality of other connections. RegioJet is said to be able to do this.
According to Jančura, the only condition is the transfer of the existing time slots from ČD to RegioJet so that it is possible to ensure the connection in the time to which customers are accustomed.
RegioJet allegedly does not even demand a crown from subsidies to take over these connections. “We will ensure their profitable operation and quality services, as is customary in Western Europe, without requiring subsidies from the state budget. The money saved can then be invested in the improvement of other infrastructure, for example in the completion of the motorway network or the reconstruction of roads and motorways, “said company spokesman Aleš Ondrůj.
In the first phase, RegioJet is ready to operate the entire half of the EC and IC trains (two-hour clock) on the Břeclav – Brno – Prague route from December 2012. According to the carrier, this would mean immediate annual savings of more than 100 direct crowns for the Ministry of Transport.
According to the company, the standard service would be as high as on the Havířov – Ostrava – Olomouc – Prague line. The operation of this line is already profitable after the first three days from the start, the average occupancy, according to Ondrůj, is around 80 percent per day.
RegioJet is also officially negotiating with DB Bahn to ensure the operation of trains on the Prague – Berlin – Hamburg Czech Railways route. DB Bahn is currently assessing the offer and intends to decide by December which partner to work with.
