Amadeus changes Finavia’s operations
Airport operator Finavia is launching Amadeus’ cloud-based airport operational database (AODB) at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and 19 regional airports across Finland.
The value of the AODB is directly proportional to the quality and timeliness of the information it contains. Traditionally, AODB receives information in batches from air traffic control and airlines on a case-by-case basis. By implementing a single cloud-based solution that is tightly integrated with airlines’ systems, Finavia will benefit from automatic real-time flight data updates as soon as airlines make changes. This ensures a high level of accuracy and helps airport stakeholders to better target resources and meet the needs of airlines and passengers.
“The introduction of this new feature at Finavia’s airports will significantly improve the efficiency of our operations, which will help us work better with our airline partners to improve the timely performance of passengers,” said Leyla Akgez-Laakso, CFO of Finavia.
Thanks to the detailed understanding and visibility of passenger connections, Amadeus AODB also supports Finavia to better target incoming aircraft at the right gate.
Yannick Beunardeau, vice president of airport IT and airline operations, EMEA, Amadeus, added: “Amadeus already controls about 95% of the data on airlines operating at Finavia airports, so we have a unique position to provide Finavia and its stakeholders with access to accurate, real-time data. the deployment is a great example of an ambitious airport company looking to digitally transform and work more closely with its airline partners.
With the modernization, Finavia will be one of the first airport companies to run AODB from the cloud with a true multi-airport approach that automatically cascades operational changes to the operator’s airports. For example, in connection with a flight departing from Helsinki to Oulu, a unique aircraft registration number is automatically available in Oulu, so that the airport can target the aircraft at the correct gate on the basis of its subsequent connecting flight. This shared situational awareness online will improve efficiency, reduce manual workload and give Finavia an advantage, Amadeus said.
The cloud approach allows AODB to be accessed from any device using a wired, Wi-Fi or mobile connection, so groundhandlers working at the airport can access up-to-date information when needed. Finavia’s management will also have a real-time view of the Group’s entire operations on any device with an Internet connection, while IT teams will benefit from reduced maintenance and reduced on-site equipment.
The change is already underway, and the transition to Amadeus AODB will take place in stages at 20 Finnish airports over the next year.
